First Edition Memoirs

“Ready, Fire, AIM!”

Neuman top only 2Neuman book in case 2Neuman top and side

I completed a really fun, interesting memoir this week. Here’s what it looks like in its completed case. (Forgive the photo quality – I’m a better writer than I am a photographer, I hope!)  Click on any photo to view it up close.

The photo at top left is the lid of the case – when I saw this weathered blue box with its chalkboard top, I knew I had to use it because the client has fond memories of drawing on a chalkboard wall in his childhood home. The saying I added is one of his favorite inspirational quotes.

The photo at top right is the book itself, nestled inside its upholstered case. (I’ve erased the author’s name in this photo, for privacy reasons.) The book title is another favorite quote and matches the cover image of the client and his brother in matching Roy Rogers outfits c. 1953.

The lower photo is one side of the case. For this project I decoupaged images on all four sides of the case, depicting important people, places, events, even favorite foods in the client’s life.

It is always an honor to tell someone’s story, and creating the perfect decorative case using antique books/boxes, photos, letters, found items, ephemera, paint, embroidery, etc., is a highlight of the work for me.
